Member spotlight: Australian Retirement Trust (ART)

Our member spotlight series celebrates our valuable member base and showcases our collaborative work, from working groups to global studies.

What surprised you most about working on our recent study?

The sophistication of the questions in terms of their depth and breadth was a bit of a surprise. While Australia has historically been at the forefront of innovation in the defined contribution pension sector, it was clear from working on this study that Australia is just one part of highly sophisticated global defined contribution system.

What do you think other members would value knowing?

The study highlighted the meaningful shift in focus within the defined contribution sector, from savings accumulation, to preparing for and supporting members to generate sustainable income through their retirement.

With transitioning to defined contribution becoming an increasingly popular model for pension fund design globally, the opportunity to learn from the most mature defined contributions systems could prove particularly valuable for TAI members who are just starting on that journey.

What made this collaborative project work well?

People are at the heart of any successful project and we are lucky to work in an industry where purpose-driven people who realise that collaboration enables us to collectively serve our higher order purpose which is to inspire confidence and awaken futures for our members.

Finally, what’s on your shelf? Tell us what you’re either reading, watching or listening to.

This seems to always be one of the hardest questions for me to answer as it changes so regularly and my kids seem to have a disproportionate influence on things. I have just finished watching Department Q and I am watching Blade Runner with my daughter tonight.
